Here's a fun story from the weekend:
Coach JC Ortiz's GU12 Classic Team had an early morning game in Puyallup yesterday. Due to their circumstances, the team was forced to play two players down (9 vs. 11 now) with no subs. They took a GK-3-4-1 formation with only one regular defender in the lineup, Ashley.

The girls were losing 0-1 at halftime, but they came out in the second half confident that they could make something happen. In the third minute of the second half Jessa played a strong through ball to Gabby, who carried the ball for 35 yards, fending off two defenders, then tied the game with a well placed finish. The girls were determined to give it all they had - and it paid off! With two minutes left, Gabby picked the ball up from her own half, beat three defenders, and carried the ball into perfect position where she scored the game winning goal.

Those girls gave it everything from start to finish - Makinley and Hannah both stepped up to play defense, even though they had never played those positions before, and the whole team came together and kept their mentality in a positive zone the whole game.

That's what NWU is all about! Congratulations girls. You played one heck of a game.

Northwest united players Daniel Rocha and Luis Rivera flew out to Chula Vista, California to particiapate in US Club Soccer’s id2 National Identification and Development Program which provides an opportunity for the country’s elite youth soccer players to be identified and developed, and scouted for inclusion in U.S. Soccer’s National Team programs. This regional camp will host some of the top players in the nation and the boys will get a chance to showcase their talents and be trained by top coaches from the national set up. The boys are representing the 2002 boys and if they impress will have a chance to first head to Arizona for a second session then possibly a chance to make the travelling team heading to Argentina. Luis Rivera coached by Matt Youngsman here at Northwest is a very clever player, he’s the type that has a lot of natural ability and great balance. He can change direction with ease and has ability to beat defenders. Daniel Rocha playing on Geoff Martins team and recently selected for Kristian Powells 98 team has a great first touch out the air and on the ground, extremely clean on the ball and has a passing range beyond his years. Extremely tight control. Both will im sure impress at the camp. Following Dealney Watson and Chris Rocha its great to have more of our boys get this opportunity to really get out there and see the best at this National event and be recognized for their talent. Both lads are currently involved in the Sounders discovery program as well and are really elevating their games. Northwest united are seeing more benefits of our developmental model here which provides every player a chance to reach their potential. We wish the boys luck from here at the club.
